CCAGW Urges House Oversight Committee to Support H.R. 262 | Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

CCAGW Urges House Oversight Committee to Support H.R. 262

Letters to Officials

February 5, 2024

U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability
2154 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative,

You will soon be considering H.R. 262, the All Economic Regulations are Transparent (ALERT) Act.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support this legislation.

The ALERT Act would increase transparency around the regulatory process by requiring federal agencies to issue monthly updates to the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) on their plans for regulations, including projected costs and other economic impacts.  Agencies would not be able to implement their final rules until at least six months after they have published information about the rule online.  The bill would also require the OIRA to issue an annual report that details the costs of all regulatory rules that have been proposed or finalized in the previous year.

Federal regulations have a significant impact on businesses and the economy.  The ALERT Act would bring more accountability and transparency to the regulatory process and reduce government waste.  For these reasons, I urge you to support H.R. 262.  All votes related to H.R. 262 may be among those considered for CCAGW’s 2024 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
